Join me on June 24 in Rochester, New York, where I will be reading from my new children’s book, Martha’s Magical Hair, followed by a talk on how Martha Harper, a franchise pioneer, succeeded with the support of the women’s suffrage movement in Rochester, New York.

Rochester’s upcoming suffrage exhibit, “Because of Women Like Her,” commemorates the contributions of these incredible women and will run from June 2 through October 14 at Hacker Hall at the Rochester Library. At the exhibit, Harper’s iconic reclining shampoo chair and samples of her products will be on display, along with Susan B. Anthony’s dress that she often wore fighting for women’s rights.

Be sure to stop by Rochester’s exhibition to explore the diverse people and disparate ideas of the women’s rights and suffrage movements based in New York. You’ll learn about the enduring—yet incomplete—legacy that inspires us to engage in social activism today. The exhibit features a unique collection historic artifacts, including the gavel used at the 1848 Women’s Rights Convention in Rochester, a Bloomer costume, salon and hair products developed by franchising pioneer Martha Matilda Harper, and clothes worn by Susan B. Anthony during her lecture tours.

Don’t miss out on this inspiring, educational opportunity to pay tribute to the women who advocated for women’s rights, eventually leading up to the passage of the New York State women’s suffrage amendment in 1917.
